About Lanchester Mountaineering Club

Dinner meet group photo 1995 The Lanchester Mountaineering Club (or Lanch) was founded in 1995 by graduates of Coventry University who wanted to keep in touch after leaving Uni and maintain links with the student club.

Whilst we maintain strong links with the student club the Lanch organises its own meets and social events and the membership includes many non ex-Coventry University members. Also due to the ever-expanding membership the club has developed its constitution to enable young families to attend events.

We are a mixed bunch in terms of age and interests, with the main emphasis on having a great time and enjoying the freedom of the outdoors.

So What do we do ?

  • Hill Walking
  • Skiing
  • Caving
Our main activities include:
  • Walking
  • Scrambling
  • Rock Climbing
  • Mountain Biking
  • Skiing

Meets are roughly once a month, across the UK and further afield. We already have a pretty full Meets List for this year.

Its not all about the hills though, Social meets are also held throughout the year. With a birthday bash, summer BBQ and the infamous "Shrewsbury Curry" (rarely in Shrewsbury). The New Year party in the lakes is likely to be a big one!. Finally the Annual Dinner gives a chance for members to don posh frocks or DJ's for a slap up meal. If that's not enough, there's the opportunity to join the student club on their term time meets

  • Swowfield Campsite
  • Hillwalking Walking
  • Posing on a Outcrop

For the more serious mountaineer several international expeditions have taken place, such as the Greenland Expedition and we also organise courses like the Survival and Alpine First Aid Course
